The Babchenko Intrigue – Continued…

As written before there seems to be more than meets the eye when discussing Babchenko’s mysterious and miraculous death and resurrection two weeks ago. In the previous article I addressed the coincidence of new pro-Poroshenko members of the Ukrainian Council of Public Control at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau having been elected these very same days, but that’s not where the trail seems to end.

The SBU also apprehended a Ukrainian individual during Babchenko’s Biblical consecution. The SBU argued that Russia paid said individual to hire mercenaries – like self-confessed and still free activist Alexey Tsymbalyuk – who’d target our Messiah journalist. The name the SBU brought forward is that of Borys Herman (or “German” according to some sources).

Mr. Herman is an executive of Schmeisser; a German weapons producer dealing with the Ukrainian MoD. Herman seems to be misled into cooperating in this bazaar but has ended up being arrested himself. PolitNavigator already mentioned last year he was being targeted by the SBU; itself under full control of oligarch-became-president Poroshenko. A year ago the charges “merely” were fraud; now, it’s complicity to attempted murder. The Babchenko “case” led by another friend of Poroshenko, Prosecutor-General Mr. Yuriy Lutsenko, seems to have finished off Mr. Herman.

As an aside, our sources tell us nearly all Ukrainian arms manufacturers are either directly or indirectly linked to Poroshenko’s business endeavors. Tools of destruction which eventually are used in the absurd war against the revolted provinces in the East. In other words, massacring unarmed civilians in Donbass is one the many sources of profit for the oligarch Poroshenko.

Rectifications

Yet some rectifications to my previous article also are due. The picture shown originally is not one of the C14 Nazi militia but of  volunteers belonging to another Nazi-militia called Карпатська Січ (Carpathian Sich) which existed between 2014 and 2016. It was part of the Ukrainian army and fought in Donbass. It was named after the original 1938-1939 Transcarpathian and nationalistic militia  itself liaised to the Galician OUN-UPA. A correct image of the actual C14 militia is reproduced here. If time permits a more complete overview of the different, extreme, Nazi-like minutemen operating in Ukraine will be posted. Let me know in the comments.

Secondly, the original article tends to suggest a direct connection between C14 and Akhtemov while the connection is more indirect through Poroshenko’s SBU. Fact of the matter is that the clan ruling Ukraine now largely consists of Poroshenko himself, Akhmetov, Firtash en Pinchuk. The last one in the list is a personal friend of George Soros as well as of the Clintons. Pinchuk as well as Soros contributed extensively to the Clinton campaign back when they thought it mattered. Nevertheless, it’s primarily Poroshenko and Akhtemov – the latter largely avoiding the spotlights – who are renown to steal Ukraine’s resources. Akhtemov likely is the richest of both and can entitle himself to the single Ukrainian position in Bloomberg’s billionaire list at place 289 with a net worth of around 5.92B. He was born a Crimean Tatar but grew up in Donetsk and now (probably) is the main driving force in favour of Ukraine’s unwarranted agression against the republics. He started building his business imperium in the early nineties using a fully fledged maffia-style approach resulting in him getting control over a large part of the Eastern republics’ companies. Funny detail: Ukraine still was buying coal from Akhtemov’s companies in the DNR  and LNR at least during the first year of the civil war: the Ukrainian government was still paying Akhtemov’s businesses while they in turn paid taxes to the government. But Akhmetov’s business empire stretches all across Ukraine, for example, he is one of the largest stakeholders, with a near-monopoly, in Ukrainian electricity production and distribution.

Ukraine’s a complex country. Reporting in mainstream press is wholly inadequate and – need it rehearsal – biased. It’s quite impossible to understand the country only in terms of “Yanukovitch”, “Maidan”, “Crimea” and “Poroshenko”. To fully understand what is happening today one needs to take into account the historical context.

That’s why I’ll try to give some background here and there.

Nothing is what it seems really. Coincidences in international politics don’t really exist.

Joris De Draeck

Ever since the early 00's Joris De Draeck has had an extreme interest in international politics. Increasingly, he has grown weary of how the media portrays the conflicts and has become disappointed in how the backgrounds are left undisclosed and untouched upon.
